On Friday we had nothing to do so Katie and I decided to go on a bit of an adventure. We played the left/right game. This entailed walking along the road and when we came to an intersection we played rock-paper-scissors to choose which direction to go in. I was left, Katie was right. We ended up at Stuart park where we hung out at the beach for awhile.
At night we checked out the Full-Moon festival at north gong beach. It was not as exciting as I was expecting so we decided to leave shortly after arriving. We then tried to go out, but when we got to a bar I realized that I didn't have my ID on me. So our evening came to an end, without much excitement.
Today (Weds March 24th) my day started off with 2 tuts (AUST 101 and SOC 103)...yes I am in all freshman level classes and it is awesome! My day was done at 12:30, but I hung around campus until 1:30 to attend my Unicrew meeting. We met on the duck pond lawn for about 15-20mins and then split our separate ways.
I headed back to the apartment for a few hours. At 4:30 I went back to school because I had volunteered to work the trivia game at the Unibar. Reece one of the organizers of the group was there to help us set up, and let us know what we were supposed to do. He then left me and another girl to run the game. There were 3 rounds, all of which I barely knew any of the answers myself. I didn't want to be the MC so I was the score keeper. At the end of the game their was a tie between 2 teams. For the tie-breaker I got 2 schooners of iced water, and one representative from each team had to skull (chug) the ice water. The first team to finish everything, including ice, won free tickets to an upcoming gig.
I went back to the apartment for the 2nd time, and my friend Heather came over for dinner. We had pasta with sauce and garlic bread. It was super yummy! After sitting around and chatting for awhile we headed to ColdRock (same concept as coldstone) to get some ice cream. I got a caramel ice cream with brownie crushed in it! We took our ice cream and walk to the park.
As a kid I loved to climb trees, so I felt tonight was a perfect time to play like a kid. So I climbed a tree, played tag in the park (a good workout without having to go to the gym), played on a playscape, and walked on the beach in the dark. I had a total blast!!
For me, St. Patricks day took place on a Wednesday night. My roommates and I got on our green attire and headed out to a Irish Pub. We never actually ended up going to the pub because we decided that the walk probably wasn't going to be worth stuck in a huge line anyway. So we stopped at the usual Hotel Illawarra.
We all decided to get a classic Irish drink (Irish car bombs). I had never had one, but had heard if you don't drink it fast enough it will curdle. The drinks here are much smaller in the states, so I was actually able to successfully drink the car bomb. I wouldn't say it was great, but it really wasn't bad! Unfortunately, we ended up with a lot of money issues. The drinks were $4.50 and I paid with a 20. Yet I didn't get ANY change back. We have no idea where the money went, but my drink ended up costing a lot more than expected.
After awhile we headed to the Glasshouse. Everyone was dressed in green, and many people were wearing crazy outfits! One guy was wearing a full-body green spandex suit that even covered up his entire face. It was wild! I ended up meeting and dancing with an Australian guy :) I had a blast! The night was an overall success!!
On Friday night I invited my friend Bryan over to our apartment to pregame and told him to bring friends. I was expecting him to show up with about 5 or 6 people, when actually he came with about 18! We were all pumped though to have so many people over! Everyone was very impressed with our apartment, and my roommates and I can't wait to have everybody over again!
Everyone stayed for awhile and then we all headed out to the Glasshouse, 151, and Hotel Illawara. It was so much fun to be with such a big group of people! When we got to Illa, we hung out with Matt the bartender who had taken us to Ulladulla on Thursday. We danced until 3am, when we finally decided it was time to go because we had to get up early the next day!
Saturday morning I woke up at 8am to get ready to go surfing for the first time. Jason, Kelly, Katie and I had paid $30 for a 2hr lesson that included a surf shirt and the board. I was so pumped to try surfing for the first time. We were running a little late, but we still made it before any major instruction began. We were given white surf shirts, mine smelled like a nasty combination of sweat and wet dog...yuck! We were given our boards and walked down to the beach, where we set up in a circle (about 30 people). We practiced getting up and went over some safety tips. Within about 15mins we were out in the water trying it for ourselves.
The water/waves were so powerful. I felt like I was being pummeled just trying to get out into the water. Each time a wave hit me, I thought my bathing suit bottom was going to fall off! After fighting against the waves I finally made it a good distance out. I laid on my board (which was not as easy as you think it would be)...haha! An instructor helped me catch the first wave, and gave me a shove when it came. I got up a little bit but wasn't able to fully stand. After several trys I was actually able to get up for a few seconds, and then quikly fell! Still... it was awesome!! I continued to try to catch waves but was quickly getting very tired.
By the end of the 2hours I was exhausted!! The fact that I only got a couple of hours of sleep may have also added to the exhaustion. I now have much more of an appreciation for all of the people who surf daily. It is such a good work out! After surfing I came back to the apartment, took a shower and then a 2hr nap! What a great day!!
